1st, 2nd, 3RD Snow of the Season

For those who don't know, yes, it does snow in New Mexico.  We live in what's called "high desert."  The climate is very dry and it does get pretty hot in the summertime, but in the winter, it gets really cold, too.  I'm typing this at 6:30am and it's 20-degrees Fahrenheit right now.  Tonight, the low is forecasted to be 6.  I don't know about you, but that's cold.

Well, this weekend, we've had our share of snow.  It snowed Friday (and stuck), but was all melted by 10am on Saturday.  Then it snowed again Saturday, but was melted before church on Sunday.  Both of the first two snows were gloppy, wet and just mostly messy -- more than they were pretty.

But today, we got our third snow and it's the nice, crystally, sparkly, pretty kind.  Local schools are already on a two-hour delay, but I am pretty sure they'll close because this snow won't melt in time for bus-safety with a couple hours extra.

Anyway, I got up early and tromped outside in my pajamas to go photograph the house and street (for like the millionth time, because I'm not very adventurous early in the morning with regards to snow and other NM drivers).  I wanted to get out there before our kids do.  I'm pretty sure I'll get pictures of them in the snow later, but first, I just wanted the quiet peace of the morning snow.

And yes, we do still have our pumpkins out.  It's still autumn and I'm holding on to every last minute of my favorite season!  Besides, pumpkins with snow on them is pretty, don't you think?

Anyway, compared with New England winter scenes, this pretty much pales in comparison.  But for a family with five snow-babies, this will bring them great joy today.  I can't wait to see their faces when they wake up and see how much snow is out there.

The first and second snows were sputtering starts to the season and pretty disappointing for the kids.  But today's snowfall is certain not to disappoint.  And it keeps on falling!!

Fun fact: I used the word pretty in every paragraph.  Yes, I'm in that kind of mood. :)

  2. Wow! That was a lot of snow! The pumpkins do look nice in a wintery picture. (Not one I see very often, though.)
