Conversations with Our Favorite Kindergartener

I love my niece, N, mostly because she is so adorable.  And five.  Three and five are my favorite ages for kids.

Disclaimer:  I love my kids at all ages, but I like them better on particular days and at certain ages ... and so far, that's three and five.  I have a hunch I might like them a lot at 30, too.  But we'll see.

Anyway, so N and I were chatting it up this morning and I wanted to capture some of the best moments and record them here for me to reflect back on when she's nine or 14 or whatever.  It was a lot to remember, so hopefully I've captured the gist of these stories from earlier today and you'll excuse me if I'm a word or two off on anything.  I'm pretty sure I'm close though.

K:  When I used to go to elementary school, there was a big tube-tunnel thing where the kindergartners used to hide and kiss each other.

N:  Ew.  I will not do that!

K:  Yeah, that's not good.  The kids got in trouble.

me:  Definitely save your kisses for your husband, N!

K:  Yes, save up your kisses for your future husband.  Okay?

N:  But I'm never getting married.

K:  You're not?  What are you going to do?

N:  I'm going to live next to Mama forever.

N:  When I grow up, I'm going to change my name to Cyan.

me:  Cyan?  Hmm.  I think that means blue.  At least that's the color of my blue printer toner: cyan.  But I guess it could be a pretty name.

N:  Yes, it could if it's my name.

me:  Don't you like N?

N:  No, not really.  I think I like Cyan.

me:  Well, okay then.

(At this point in the conversation, her sister, K, was exiting the car to head into school...)

N (to K):  Tell all your friends that N says hello!

K:  Okay.  By-ye! (door shuts)

me (jokingly):  Tell all your friends that Cyan says hello, too.

N:  I'm still N today.  They won't know who Cyan is yet.  But someday they will.

While eating a bag of peanuts (one of her favorite snacks), in the morning before school...

N:  Can I give E a peanut?

me:  Definitely no.  Peanuts aren't good for babies.

N:  I know some babies who eat peanuts.

me:  But not E.

N:  Unless she sneaks them.

So grateful it's Friday.  Thanks for celebrating my favorite day of the week with me.  Even better - tomorrow is J's 8th birthday!  I can't wait to help her celebrate.
