Our Trip to SLC, Part II

Okay, so here is a sampling of the photos I took while we were in Salt Lake City.  I did not include pictures from the various restaurants where we ate, from the hotel where we stayed (it was just a Residence Inn), nor from every tourist attraction we stopped to see.  We did many things during our three days in the city -- some were more fun than others, some were more photogenic than others.  I'll try to fill in some gaps with text, but otherwise, just enjoy the photo tour...

Random picture of SLC downtown.

This, too.

Downtown SLC at rush hour -- because that's when we decided to head over to the Cheesecake Factory since we don't have one anywhere in New Mexico. :(  They won't even ship to us! (per their website)

Mmmmmm.

We visited the Captiol twice, actually, because I took the kids one day and C wanted to go with us another day when he was done with his speaking engagement at the Salt Palace (Convention Center).  It's a neat looking capitol as far as capitols go.

Inside the dome.

There was more marble in the capitol than I think I've ever seen in one location.  Even the bathroom partition walls were marble.

Fancy-schmancy.

We visited Liberty Park and played in the playground for a bit.  Beautiful place.

In Liberty Park was Tracy Aviary.  It happened to be Winter Wednesday, so admission fees were waived ... and like that, we were blessed financially once more.  So helpful for a large family!!

These were called something-whistling ducks and were so cute for the noises they made.  I love them.

Too many birds to photograph and share here, but just a really great variety.  I loved this fun one for its color.

When in Salt Lake City, we felt it was important to go see the Great Salt Lake.  We visited the lake by visiting Antelope Island (in the lake).  Here is a view from the island, back towards the "mainland."

A lucky shot on Antelope Island.

Despite the name of the island, it is not known for antelope, but for the freely roaming bison.  They just pretty much go wherever they please.  Here are a couple in a parking lot.

Nah-nah-nuh-nah-naaah!

To which my husband replied, "I'm not sure those signs will work, I don't think they can read,"  (insert hilarious laughter here -- like I did).

Definitely not on the road.

We also visited Sweet's Candy Factory -- fun and free samples! -- but we were not allowed to take pictures.  But if you're ever in SLC, I recommend you take the free tour.  It was a great learning opportunity with a sweet reward.

Stay tuned for the third part of this series -- the trip home.

  1. Ha! It does look like the sign is talking to the bison, rather than the humans.

Wow, why can't you take pictures at Sweet's? That whomps.

I wanted to hear the whistling duck sound, but the only whistling duck I can find online is not the right one!

  2. Sweet's doesn't allow pictures so you can't tell people their secrets. I'm sure Willy Wonka wouldn't allow photos either -- the factories are very similar, trust me. ;-)

Try http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1rvZfML8zI for the ducks. (Sorry, I don't know how to make that a link for you so you'll have to cut and paste.)

  3. Here's one more good one without the lady's voice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGC6EXMh3WI&feature=related (but you'll have to put up with some interesting music instead).

They're ducks, but they sound like a bunch of peeping chicks. Love.

  4. That is a beautiful capitol! Love, love the pictures of all the birds.
P.S. I'm going to try to check 2 entrys each time. I don't want to spend all day, since I'm so far behind. I love you. (Yea! I figured it out!)
