Valentine's Day, 2012

Happy Valentine's Day!

I wanted to share with you a craft the kids and I did today as a gift to our school's principal (Principal Daddy).  I was really pleased with how it came out.

First, if you don't know what a good cook C is, I'm sorry I haven't blogged enough about that yet.  But not only is he a good cook, he has a real passion for food and feeding the masses.  He has always wanted to do something to feed the community at large -- especially those who really need food -- and loves, loves, loves having our family help him out in this endeavor and all things cooking and kitchen related.

So, when I saw the wall art pictured below at Hobby Lobby, I knew it was perfect for him and for his kitchen.

But then I started thinking about how to get the kids involved in the gift for him.  So I thought of this...

Yes!  A wooden spoon family! Each kid did him or herself using acrylic paints and Sharpies (for details) and I helped with the glue gun.  S not only did herself, but Daddy, too (since it was a gift for him, we couldn't make him do his own).  I love the personality that comes through each one.

I don't often wear a bow, but my spoon-self needed something to hide the hair-part of hot glue.  Besides, I'm not as thin as my spoon-self, either, but other than that -- she's a pretty accurate likeness of me. Ha!

We've already presented it to Principal Daddy and he seemed to really like it.  He said he'd like to assemble them into a wall bouquet though so we can hang the family near the wall art.  I may let him get involved in that portion of the project, because I have no idea how to do that.

  1. How funny, clever and sweet of all of you "kids" to give Daddy such a thoughtful gift. I like it! The wall bouquet is a good idea, because it won't take up valuable counter space in a much-used kitchen. Love, Mom/Namma

  2. Very true, Mom. :) I wish I'd thought of it before we gave it to him! Ha.
