Please Help This Homeschooling Family

I don't know if you have followed the news about the German family seeking political asylum here in the United States so they may continue to homeschool their children.  But here is an article posted by Fox News about their plight if you would like to find out more.

In the meantime, HSLDA is helping them fight their battle and they are asking for our help.  Here is text from an email I received today from Mike Farris of HSLDA (of which we are members), asking us to sign a petition they've put together to help change the minds of our federal government, who right now wants to send this family back to Germany to be persecuted.

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends,

Our German homeschool family asylum case is taking the country by storm. It has caught the attention of the national news media and an increasing number of people all over the country.
I think I know why.

Earlier this week I was interviewed by Glenn Beck who told me that trying to send this German family back to suffer persecution would be the most “un-American” thing he could imagine.

I agree.

That is why we are pulling out the stops and demanding a response from the Obama Administration. We want them to tell us why they are doing this. We are also requesting that they do the right thing and grant this family asylum. They have the power to do it and they should.

But I need you to tell them that. I need you to sign the petition right now.
If you want to follow this case more, you can also watch me again tomorrow on Fox and Friends weekend at 9:40 AM ET and then on Sunday on the Fox News channel at 12:40 PM ET. I plan to sound the alarm everywhere I can—I need you to do the same! This case is THAT important.

Here is why.

Uwe and Hannelore Romeike left everything they had to come to America to escape persecution for doing something that we take for granted. All they wanted to do was homeschool their children and teach them according to their beliefs. But the powerful German State will not allow them. In fact, Germany does not tolerate homeschooling at all. They say that homeschooling creates “parallel societies” (we call it pluralism) and that the government has a right to stamp out these “parallel societies.”

You know, just as I do, that there are too many here in America just like that. Given the chance, they would stamp out our most precious liberties—just like that.
That is why I am so committed to fighting the Administration on this.

That is why this petition is so important.

We need you to sign this petition demanding that the White House tell us why they are trying to send this good and decent family back to face certain persecution. We only have 27 days to get 100,000 signatures. As I write this we are closing in on 10,000. But we need so many more. Will you please sign this important official petition right now?

Go to www.tinyurl.com/romeike. Please, do it right now. It is that important.

This morning on Fox and Friends, I said that it was a good thing that this administration wasn’t in charge when the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth. Based on the arguments the government is making in this case, the Pilgrims probably would have been sent back to Europe. Like the Romeikes, the Pilgrims came here for a better life for their children. The Pilgrims, like the Romeikes, yearned for freedom to raise their children according to their beliefs.

You know what?

As an American, I am embarrassed that our government is pursuing this good family and wants to send them back to a country, even Germany, who will persecute them for exercising the most precious liberty to educate their own children.

I need you to keep this family and our legal team in your thoughts and prayers. I am preparing for a critical oral argument on April 23 in the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

But the most important thing you can do right now is to sign the petition.

You can also help us by giving to the Homeschool Freedom Fund which helps us fight for the Romeikes and others.

Thank you for joining with us to support this brave family. I hope you will tune in tomorrow morning at 9:40 AM ET on Fox and Friends or 12:40 PM ET on Sunday on Fox News.

For Liberty,
Mike Farris

I have signed this petition as a small effort to help this cause.  But there are so many more signatures required.  So I am blogging about this here in an effort to reach more who might feel so inclined to give their support as well.

Now, if you decide to join me in supporting HSLDA in this fight for the Romeike family's freedoms, take the links provided above, or THIS LINK to the petition.  You will be asked to create an account with whitehouse.gov -- this took me literally less than 60 seconds -- before you can sign the petition.  When your account is established, signing the petition is as easy as a click of your mouse.

After you do this, please share this information with the people you know via your blog or other social media sites.  Thank you for taking the time to read and consider taking part in this process.

Also, please PRAY!!

(Side Note: I found that the links did not work properly in Internet Explorer, but did work just right in Mozilla Firefox, so if you're finding it challenging to get to the links, try a different browser.  Don't give up!)
