Seasonal Transitions

H's team fought right up to the very end with some awesome trick plays and exciting moments, but they ended up losing their first game today.  This meant that the season is over for them (except their end-of-year banquet).

The end of the season is always bittersweet.  We regain our Saturdays and several evenings a week that previously were spent on games and practices.  But I find that without the schedule of those things and the forced exercise that comes from those things, H tends to want to slip into a TV/Lego coma.  I hope we can find some other activities to help him stay alert.  Never mind that the kids' P.E. class also ended this week.

Yes, summer is almost here.  While we do decrease the school load for a few months, it's always a challenge to work out some kind of regular schedule so that our time isn't wasted and so that their minds don't go to mush.  So this is my next challenge: summer curriculum.

We've tried workbooks and even though it's a break for me, it's not stimulating enough for them.  I'll still probably grab some for the younger kids, because it's an easy way to keep them busy even in the car on day-trips and stuff.  While J's been sick, I've resorted to several "workbook days," because it's all I can do to keep them going educationally through this time.

I'm supposed to be lesson planning for this week, but my head is swirling.  I started earlier and then realized how tired I was.  I laid down for a 20-minute nap and woke up three hours later.  It was like a blink of an eye.  I could have slept for several more hours if I hadn't gotten too warm since I was still fully dressed ... in jeans.

Okay, I should get started ... bye-bye blog world.  Have a nice evening.

  1. I'm reading these, even though I'm not great at commenting! Sorry J's still sick. It's really weird.

  2. Good! You got some much needed rest! We don't want you worn down, again. You DID just get over a sinus infection.
    Take care of yourself.
    Love, Mom
