A Word About the Weather

I keep hearing about this drought of Biblical proportions around our country this year.  It's a scary thing!  Especially considering the outrageous numbers of wild fires recently.  My prayers go out for those who have lost homes or loved ones because of the fires.

But oddly, here in New Mexico, it's rainy season, so I guess we're getting a bit of a reprieve from dry weather.  Especially last night!  Usually our storms last about 20 minutes or so, but this one went on and on for a couple hours -- pouring and storming.  It was so cool.

Try as I might, I didn't manage to get any really good lightning pictures this time around -- mostly because the lightning seemed to be behind the clouds.  So I'll share with you some sample shots from my front yard and front porch that I took during the storm, but don't expect to see any lightning striking portraits here.

I took these around 8:15pm (sunset was at 7:53pm here), Thursday evening.

Side street.

Straight ahead there is normally our view of the mountains.

This is our New Mexico home.

Here's where I tried for about 20-30 minutes to get pictures of lightning from the cover of our front porch, which kept striking over the neighbors' house.  (It was still very windy and I kept having to wipe drips off my lens even though I was under the cover.)

This is all I saw when lightning would strike.  It was behind the clouds.

Another angle I tried.

And, lightning behind the clouds again.  At least I timed it well.

  1. Well, even though you couldn't see an actual bolt, I can tell that the lightning certianly lit up the sky!!
