On Valentine's Eve

Once again, the day of love is upon us and once again, I allowed too many things to get in my way.  So my Valentine's cards are still sitting on my desk, unsigned, unmailed.  Just like last year.

In the meantime, KLOVE radio station has had some great Valentine's stuff on the air this week and it's putting me in the mood for this special day.  So I'll definitely rush out tonight to get our kids a Valentine's treat at the very least.

The other day KLOVE played a silly song about how "My Valentine's Card is a Post-it Note" and I have looked around, but cannot find it available online anywhere to link to.  So funny.  Very much where C's Valentine's card is headed this year if I don't take some time this evening.  (Sorry to tease you with "something so funny," and then provide no link to it.  I really, really wanted to.)

They also posted this video of a couple married 62 years and still having fun.  I love it.  I want that to be C and me.  But first, we need to learn how to play piano, I guess.

But today, they played Tenth Avenue North's Valentine's version of their song Times.  I really love that song anyway, but the Valentine's version was filled with Scripture about God's love spoken over parts of the song.  It was awesome.

Is that available online?  Well, if it is, I can't find it.  So instead I'm posting a video of the original Times with lyrics for you in case you haven't heard this before (it's been out for a while)...

I love the part of the song that goes: "My love is over. It's underneath. It's inside. It's in between."

It reminds me a lot of Psalm 139 that we're s.l.o.w.l.y. memorizing this year in school.  Especially verse five that reads:  "You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me."

This is something so reassuring.  To know that the Lord has me covered on all sides.  Now that is real love.

We get this great opportunity to share God's love (and our own) with others by giving them cards or chocolates or flowers or Post-it Notes ... whatever.  But let me not forget how God's love is all around me every single day (not just on Valentine's Day) and wherever I go.  What better gift is there than that?

So I'll offer you this blog-Valentine...

I love you, because God loves you.  Even if I don't know you.  And because
He loves me, I overflow with love for each of you out there reading this.
Happy Valentine's Day.

And in a more Mama Flock-ian way to close this post, I wanted to share with you this blog post from KLOVE's Morning Show that talks about three ways to change your kids' lives.  I've tried using a couple of these today and it really works!  I got a much better response from our kids even though they were in the midst of frustration.

  2. I heard the 3 ways to change kids lives on KLOVE, too. I have to remember use them with the my great neices and nephews. I feel bad that I said the wrong things when you girls were young. Probably, I've said some regrettable statements even to the grandchildren. I am sorry.

Thank you for this post. I love you, Mom/Namma
